Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva, who officially opened the new Judicial Complex in Jaffna Wednesday, directed related authorities to relocate the women and children in the care of Canaan Rehabiltation Centre in Irupaalai to the Rehabilitation Centre in Kurunakar, and the men held in Jaffna Prisons in protective custody to the Rehabilitation Centre in Kaarainakar. Mr Silva issued the directive after holding talks with Jaffna Government Agent (GA), legal sources in Jaffna said.

The Kurunakar building, a private guest-house, used as Jaffna High Courts before being shifted to the newly opened Judicial Complex, was reassigned as a Rehabilitation Centre.

Rehabilitation in Kaarainakar was established by former Minister Maheswaran.

Jaffna Prison officials are making arrangements to relocate the men with the assistance of the police, according to sources in Jaffna.
