Security tightened around Buddha statue in Trincomalee

The security around the controversial Buddha statue erected close to the Trincomalee bus stand has been strengthened following the bomb attacks in Colombo recently. The road that goes along Buddha statue site has been again closed for traffic, and public movement blocked along the road, due to security reasons, sources said.

Additional police personnel have been deployed around the statue day and night.

Meanwhile, three wheelers in the town are subjected to severe checks by the government security forces at all key junctions, residents said.
