Bishops' delegation visits Moothoor, meets IDPs

A delegation of Catholic Bishops Conference of Sri Lanka led by Rt.Rev.Dr.Harold Antony Perera, Bishop of Galle Diocese, Tuesday visited Moothoor, Eachchilampathu and other villages where displaced Tamil villagers from Batticaloa district are sheltered in temporary structures. They conversed with the IDPs waiting for resettlement in their own villages in Eachchilampathu and Moothoor division, and found out their needs and shortcomings, sources said.
Rt.Rev. Harold Antony Perera is also the Chairman of the National Catholic Commission for Justice, Peace and Human Development. The delegation was comprised of Bishop of Trincomalee-Batticaloa diocese, Rt.Rev.Kingsley Swampillai, Bishop of Anuradhapura, Rt.Rev Norbert Andradi, and Bishop of Badulla, Rt.Rev.Vincent Fernando, and Chairman of the SEDEC, Rev.Fr.Damien Fernando. The delegation inspected several housing schemes constructed by the Trincomalee District EHED Caritas under the auspices of the Sri Lanka Caritas (Socio-Economic Development Centre-SEDEC) for tsunami victims in the Trincomalee district, sources said.
