SLN attacks fisherman in northern seas

Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) Dvora gunboats opened fire Wednesday around 10:00 p.m and again around 4:30 a.m Thursday on fishermen fishing in Vadmaraadchi eastern sea, destroying a boat completely, while the two fishermen in the boat jumped into the sea to save their lives, sources in Vadamaraadchi said. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Army (SLA) launched heavy artillery fire Wednesday and Thursday on civilian settlements in Vadamaraadchi east, Pa’lai and Iyakkachchi areas causing damage to houses and shops.
The fishermen who narrowly escaped death in the SLA attack Wednesday night are A. Kavithas and his companion. SLN attacked fishermen fishing in Chu’ndikku’lam area Wednesday around 10:00 p.m, destroying a boat and its outboard motor and the fishing nets. Civilian settlements in Pa’lai and Iyakkachchi areas came under heavy SLA artillery attack Wednesday from 1:20 p.m to 2:40 p.m causing damage to houses and shops. No one was hurt as the occupants had fled the areas after SLA offensives. Meanwhile, SLA launched heavy artillery fire Thursday from 9:50 a.m to 11:00 a.m on civilian settlements in Maruthangkearni, Thaa’laiyadi areas in Vadamaraadchi east.
