Wickremasinghe shortens New Delhi visit

Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe, leader of the main opposition United National Party, meeting with Indian leaders in New Delhi has cut short his visit and is expected to return to Colombo Wednesday morning following the murder of fellow UNP parliamentarian Mr.Maheswaran in Colombo Tuesday morning in a Hindu temple, media sources said.
Mr.Wickremasinghe had told Colombo media from New Delhi that the Government and the police should take the responsibility for the killing of Mr.Maheswaran, media sources in Colombo reported. Meanwhile, the UNP general secretary Mr.Tissa Attanayake has requested the Defense Secretary and the Inspector General of Police to take immediate steps to provide tighter security to his leader Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe when he returns to Sri Lanka, media sources said.
