SLA shoots dead 2 youths in Kaithadi

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troops shot and killed two youths during a cordon and search operation Sunday early morning in Kaithadi area in Thenmaraadchi, sources in Jaffna said. Chaavakachcheari police handed over the corpses of the youths to Jaffna Teaching Hospital claiming them to be members of Liberation Tigers (LTTE), sources added.
The youths are estimated to be between 25 – 30 years of age, Chaavakachcheari police said. Meanwhile, SLA Palaali Military Head Quarters said in its report that one of the killed youths was Kangan, the LTTE head of Thenmaraadchi area and claimed that the two were lying in ambush when the cordon and search was launched in Kaithadi Sunday. Chaavakachcheari police informed Chaavakachcheari Court that the two youths were shot killed during the SLA cordon and search operation Sunday in Kaithadi. The magistrate directed the police to make arrangements to have the two bodies identified. LTTE has not released any report on these killings. SLA continued the cordon and search in Kaithadi north Monday. Residents of Kaithadi said they heard gun shot reports Sunday early morning during the SLA cordon and search.
