The Supreme Court Monday directed the Attorney General to submit a report describing the type of vehicles to be provided to Mr.Rauf Hakeem, Leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC), for his security. The SC issued the directive when the Fundamental Rights case filed by Mr.Rauf Hakeem against the reduction of his security was taken up for inquiry, legal sources said.
The petitioner has cited IGP, Defense Ministry Secretary and several police officials as respondents, sources said. State Counsel, Parinda Ranasinghe, informed court that the defense ministry was unable to provide vehicles earlier used by Mr.Rauf Hakeem for his security. The Counsel contended that defense ministry was unable to find alternative vehicles to be supplied to the petitioner, according to legal sources. The Court then directed the AG to submit a report what type of vehicles could be supplied to the petitioner on the next hearing fixed for February 11, legal sources said.
