Tamil civilian shot dead in Naavithanvea値i

Unidentified armed men shot and killed a Tamil civilian at Cemetery road New Housing Scheme in Naavithanvea値i in Batticaloa district Friday around 3:00 p.m, police said. The victim was on his way from Annamalai to his relative痴 house in Paa地dirippu when he was shot.

The victim was identified as Ponnaiah Chellapillai alias Vanikachelvam, 63.

Motive of the killing is not known, the police said.

His body is kept at Kalmunai hospital for inquest into death to be held.

Naavithanvea値i is located 31 km from Batticaloa town.
