Batticaloa women protest

Several women's groups in Batticaloa staged a token sit-in today in Batticaloa town to mark human rights day. About 150 women took part in the sit in demonstration in the town centre. The sit in was organised by eighteen women's groups that are active in the region.
The women carried placards demanding that the government should stop indiscriminate arrests and detention, stop discriminating against the Tamils etc. Meanwhile, large peace march has been organised from Kokkaddicholai Thaanthonreeswarar temple to the Srimurugan temple at Thaanthamalai in the Paduvaankarai region west of Batticaloa, controlled by the Liberation Tigers. The march has been organised by the trustee board of the Thaanthamalai murugan temple. Thaanthamalai is fifteen kilometers from Kokkaddicholai. The march will commence at 9 a.m. after a Pooja at the Thaanthonreeswarar temple the organisers said.
