Para- military infighting continues

Arasaratnam Ganeshamoorthy, 33, a former member the EPRLF, has complained to the Human Rights Commission in Batticaloa that he has been arrested and severely beaten up by the members of the People's Liberation Organisation Tamil Eelam (PLOTE).
He said that PLOTE cadres, including, Arasan, a local leader for the Batticaloa-Ampara district, Rangan and Velayutham, came in a van around 7.30 p.m. on December 8, took him from his house at Puththur in Batticaloa. He said he was detained at the PLOTE's camp for 2 days. He has also complained about the incident to the Sri Lankan Police and the International Committee of the Red Cross. Ganeshamoorthy was working abroad and had recently returned to Batticaloa. Earlier, a journalist who reported the story of a PLOTE cadre who had massacred 7 of his wife's family members, was threatened by the PLOTE leader, 'Arasan' said sources. Meanwhile a 15 year old student, Ponnuthurai Nakuleswaran, who was seriously wounded when the Sri Lankan Police indiscriminately opened fire yesterday morning, died at the Trincomalee hospital last night. Nakuleswaran was a student at the government school in Thambalagamam, 22 kilometers Southwest of Trincomalee.
