EDF, Independent group file nominations

Eazhavar Democratic Front (EDF) and an independent group submitted their nomination lists to contest Eastern Provincial Council (EPC) election in Batticaloa district Tuesday around 10:00 a.m to Batticaloa Government Agent (GA) and Election Officer, Suntharam Arumainayagam, sources in Batticaloa said.

One of the EDF contestants, Thirumanchalam and the principal contestant of the independent group, Navas Mohamed Jamaldeen, submitted nomination Tuesday.

Nine independent groups have paid their deposit to contest in the EPC election in Batticaloa district until Tuesday, Batticaloa Deputy Election Commissioner, Mr. Krishnananthalingam said.

EDF Secretary, Rajanathan Pirabakaran, is the principal contestant while 13 others are the rest of the contestants in the EDF list.

They are Thirumanchalam Suntharalingam, Sabapathy Yogarasa, Mathura Murali Rasamanickam, Thambiirasa Balachandran, Arokiyanathan Mariathasan, Ms. Thilakavathi Arulanantham, Sathasivam Surenthiran, Packiyarasa Thayasingam, Subramaniam Yoganathan, Nallarathinam Alathas, Joseppodi Yogenthirarasa, Joseph Rajendran and Sellathurai Sathasivam.

Rajanathan Pirabakarn, the EDF principal contestant, was elected member of Batticaloa Muncipal Council, polling 412 votes in the recent election held.
