SLA convoy attacked

Eight soldiers were wounded and one was killed when the Liberation Tigers attacked a Sri Lankan Army (SLA) convoy this afternoon around 2.30 p.m. at Aarumukathaankudiyiruppu, 13 kilometers north of Batticaloa on the main road.

The Tigers had lobbed a grenade at the bus in which the soldiers were traveling and had then opened fire on the vehicle with automatic weapons.

The wounded were rushed to the hospital by SLA and Police reinforcements that reached the area following the attack.

All vehicular transport on the Batticaloa - Valaichenai - Colombo road was stopped until the late hours of this afternoon as a consequence of the attack.
