The Governor of the North-Eastern Provincial Council(NEPC) Maj.General Asoka Jayawardena will hold a "mobile" service in all the districts of the province said sources in the Governor's office today.
The Governor's first "mobile" service would be held in the latter part of January next year in the Ampara district they said. Sources close to the North-Eastern Provincial Council Governor said that the mobile service was intended to help the chief executive of the province to consult with community leaders, interest groups and others with a view to finding out first hand and solving problems on the ground. This is the first time that a Northeast Governor has decided to hold a mobile service where he and his officials would be present in the districts on pre-announced days to meet the public, hear their cases and find solutions on the spot. The Governor's secretary Mr.S.Ganeshanathan has informed all the members of Parliament about the mobile service. Political observers in Trincomalee said that the move is aimed at improving the government's standing among the people of the province in view of the elections in 2000.
