Campaign for Free and Fair Election (CAFFE) Monday filed a petition in the Supreme Court to order the Commissioner of Elections and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take immediate steps to stop persons with arms other than government security forces moving in areas where polling stations are located in the three districts, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampaarai on May 10 when the east goes to poll, legal sources said.
Members of the Thamil Makkal Viduthalipuligal Party (TMVP) are reported to be roaming in several parts in east with arms. The police should take action against those found with arms in and out of polling stations on the Election Day to ensure free and fair election, the petition states, legal sources said.
