Anandalingam appointed Dean of Maryland Business School

Professor Anandalingam, Senior associate dean and Ralph J. Tyser Professor of Management Science in the Robert H. Smith School of Business, has been appointed dean of the school, Provost Nariman Farvardin announced this week. "Dean Anandalingam takes over the Smith School at a time when strong leadership and vision are needed to implement the university's bold new strategic plan, which charts a course for Maryland to be one of the world's best universities within 10 years," Farvardin said according to the University website.

Anandalingam's primary areas of research are in the area of pricing, economics, design, and strategic issues in electronic markets and telecommunications networks. He joined Smith School in 2001, after holding positions at Wharton School in University of Pennsylvania, and at the University of Virginia. Anandalingam earned his Ph.D. (1981) and S.M. (1977) in operations research with a minor in economics from Harvard University, and he holds a B.A./M.A. in electrical sciences from Cambridge University, England. Anandalingam is the son of "ionospheric research" fame Dr. Gnanalingam, who was a Director at the Ceylon Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research (CISIR) in Colombo, and who is currently teaching at the Department of Physics, the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California. He is also the grandson of "the man who fathered the Tamil Eelam concept and introduced the word eelam into Sri Lanka's political vocabulary — Professor C. Suntharalingam."
