Boy killed, 2 injured in bomb blast in Valikaamam

A bomb left in an abandoned house in Eazhaalai North, Chunnaakam in Valikaamam exploded Sunday evening killing a 9-year-old school boy and seriously injuring his younger brother and a small boy while they were playing in the abandoned house, sources in Jaffna said. The injured boys were rushed to Jaffna Teaching Hospital and are under treatment in the Intensive Care Unit.
The said house is located close to the High Security Zone (HSZ) of Sri Lanka Army (SLA). The boy killed was identified as Vijayajeyarasa Tharshan, 9, his injured brother as Vijyajeyarasa Vithushan, 5 and the other boy injured as Pirabananathan Yathurshan, 6. Yathursan is a boy who lived next door of the brothers. Mallaakam magistrate Ms. Sarojini Illankovan visited the place and inquired into the killing and the bomb blast. The magistrate directed Cunnaakam police to submit a report on the incident. The area where the said house is located had been demined before people were allowed to take up residence.
