Anandasangari says threatened[TamilNet, Saturday, 02 January 1999, 14:24 GMT]TULF Vice President Mr. V. Anandasangari who is currently in the northern peninsula in connection with resuscitating the party's role in running the Jaffna Municipal Council said that he received two phone calls yesterday threatening his life. The anonymous callers, according to Mr. Anandasangari, had told him that he would not be able to come out if he organised any more meetings in Jaffna. The TULF arrived in the peninsula last week in a specially laid on military flight to attend the funeral of Pon Mathimugarajah, the party's Jaffna district secretary who was slain on December 26 by a gunman. The Sri Lankan Police in Jaffna say the Liberation Tigers were responsible for the killing. The Sri Lankan government has provided heavy security to the TULF office in Jaffna town. An army unit occupies the upper floor and the Police the ground floor of the party's office building. Members are also given maximum security when they have to move about in Jaffna.
