[TamilNet, Monday, 09 June 2008, 13:47 GMT]
Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) in Nedunththeevu, assisted by policemen and Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troops brought down from Jaffna peninsula in large numbers, launched a joint cordon and search operation in Nedunththeevu Sunday, clamping a curfew from 10:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m. sources in Jaffna said. Anyone arrested during this search is not known.

No one was permitted either to enter or leave Nedunththeevu during the search while fishermen were not allowed to go fishing in Nedunththeevu seas.

Boat services to Nedunththeevu operated from Ku’rikaadduvaan presently were suspended Sunday and people traveling from Jaffna peninsula to Nedunththeevu were stopped at Ku’rikaadduvaan and sent back.

SLN has been fortifying its positions in the island of Nedunththeevu following the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) attack on its base last year.

The large scale cordon and search operation conducted Sunday was one that was launched quite after a long time.
