The killers who shot and killed the two youths inside the prison vehicle Friday had abducted a vehicle in Jaffna city, bound the driver and drove to the place to intercept the prison vehicle, according to the initial investigations, police said. Following the co-ordinated attack, officials responsible for the safety of the persons in protective custody and other prisoners during transport to courts are demanding armed guard protection for the vehicles transporting persons in their custody. Fear prevails among the persons in protective custody and the inmates of Jaffna prison.
Parking the vehicle across the road to stop the Jaffna Prison vehicle that was carrying the boys held in protective custody along with other prisoners, the killers had shot and killed the two boys inside the prison vehicle. After shooting the youths dead, the gunmen abandoned the vehicle with the driver lying bound inside and escaped in motor cycles that were waiting for them at the spot. Mallaakam magistrate allowed the driver on conditional bail and the vehicle is now held in the custody of Chu'n'naakam police.
