Ea’raavoor police arrest four EPDP cadres

Four cadres of Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) alleged to have been involved in the recent spate of abductions, robberies, extortion of money from traders in Chengkaladi region were arrested Wednesday morning by Ea’raavoor police, produced in courts, and detained for 14 days on the instruction of the magistrate, Officer in Charge (OIC) of Ea’raavoor police said.
The arrested men include Eelamaaran (Ravi), 35, a member of Chengkaladi Pradeshya Sabha as well as Segar, Vijeyan and Jebin. Eelamaran has been charged with the abduction of a trader in a white van June 19 Thursday. Meanwhile, another trader Thevathas Sureskumar, 35, a family man and a resident of Aa’ndaangku’lam, Chengkaladi in Ea’raavoor police division in Batticaloa district abducted last Thursday has not yet been released, his wife Vijelaxmy told TamilNet. Suresh Kumar’s wife Vijeyaluxmi had gone to the EPDP office and pleaded for her husband’s release but those in the office had told her that he would be released after investigations. However, when she visited the office the following day they informed her that her husband has escaped from their custody, Vijeyaluxmi said, adding she believes that the abductors may have already killed her husband.
