JOB starts functioning

A press release issued by the Sri Lankan Ministry of Defence today said that the Joint Operations Bereau (JOB) commenced functioning today, after a simple ceremony, under the chairmanship of the former Army Commander, General Roahan De S Daluwatte.
Three Service Commanders and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) were present at the ceremony. The JOB came into effect on January 4 but commenced official functions today. It will be staffed by the members of the three Services and the Police, the press release said. The Chairman of the JOB, General Rohan De S Daluwatte, retired from the post of the Army Commander last month. Lieutenant General Lal Weerasuriya assumed duties as the new Commander of the Sri Lanka Army on December 16. Meanwhile the Voice of Tigers (VoT) radio said this morning that one member of the Liberation Tigers was killed in the sea battle with the Sri Lankan Navy (SLN) off the Thalaimannar coast on Monday morning. Rajmohan (Mithirasekaram Rahulan of Trincomalee) died in the fight, the radio said. The radio, however, did not reveal any other details of the clashes.
