Corpse of a youth recovered along Jaffna lagoon

Jaffna police recovered the body of a youth with gunshot wounds washed ashore Monday morning from Ma’niam Thoaddam area in Kozhumpuththu’rai within Jaffna Municipality. The police claimed that three hand grenades were found along with the body in its report submitted to Jaffna magistrate court.
The police recovered the body in an area close to the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) sentry post along Jaffna lagoon on information given by local residents. The body remains unidentified. The corpse recovered appears to be that of a youth aged between 20 to 25 years of age. Police handed the body over to Jaffna Teaching Hospital mortuary Monday evening. Shell explosions and gunshot reports were heard from the coastal area of Jaffna lagoon Sunday and Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) helicopters were seen flying over Jaffna lagoon for hours.
