SLAF fighter jets bomb Mullaiththeevu, 2 civilians wounded

Two Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Kfir jets dropped sixteen bombs in four sorties Monday around 8:20 a.m. on Puthukkudiyiruppu civilian settlements in Mullaiththeevu district. Two women including a lady teacher were injured in the bombing while many houses and fruit trees were damaged.

Ms. S. Sasithamalar, 35, a resident of Ward 7 and a teacher, Ms. S. Sarvalogini, 35, of Ward 4, in Puthukkudiyiruppu sustained minor injuries. The houses of P. Selvaratnam, Retired Principal and S. Thamilchelvan, Village Officer, in Ward 7 were damaged in the bombing. On Saturday SLAF bombers attacked a populated village, known as 'Redd Barna' settlement, in Visuvamadu in Vanni after targeting an irrigation tank in the area. A 40-year-old civilian, who was working at his paddy field was killed and six civilians were wounded, according to medical sources. The SLAF has stepped up indiscriminate bombardment on civilian settlements as the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) fired artillery shells have targeted Mullaiththeevu and Akkaraayan hospital zones. At least five civilians were killed and more than 25 wounded in artillery and air-strikes carried out by the Sri Lankan forces in Vanni on Friday and Saturday.
