Twenty LTTE Casualties - SLN

Sri Lankan Navy (SLN) sources said that two Tiger boats were destroyed and 20 Tigers were believed to have been killed when the SLN patrol crafts attacked LTTE boats in the seas off Pulmoddai, in eastern Trincomalee last night.

Two Tigers boats were also damaged in the attack they said.

Meanwhile the Sri Lankan Army (SLA) in Jaffna said one LTTE member committed suicide in Puththur by exploding a grenade after he was cordoned off by the army yesterday.

His body had been handed over to the Jaffna Hospital they added.

The Sri Lankan Police said that two persons, identified as Murukesu Nahakumar of Racca road in Jaffna and Jesudas Theveraja were arrested on January 6 and 7 respectively.

The police said both of them are detained at the Kankesanthurai detention Centre.

Meanwhile the Voice of Tigers (short wave) said in its morning news broadcast today that three Liberation Tigers were killed in accidental explosions in the Vanni yesterday and on Sunday.

The radio said that a Tiger called Thamilmathuran (Raasalingam Rasamohan of Jaffna) was killed in an accidental explosion on Sunday and that two Tigers, Anpunesan (Vaihunthavaasan Sree of Colombo) and Pailvaan (Thavarajah Thileepan of Jaffna) were killed in another accidental blast in Kilinochchi yesterday.

The radio did not say where the explosion occurred on Sunday.

The broadcast also said that a female Tiger trooper, Isaimani (Lawrence Lalitha of Jaffna) was killed in a confrontation with the SLA at Moonrumurippu.
