[TamilNet, Friday, 15 August 2008, 05:22 GMT]
Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), the Sinhala nationalist party, alleged at a press briefing in Ratnapura Thursday that the government has unleashed anarchy in the Sabaragamuwa province against opposition parties contesting in Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council (SPC) election which is scheduled to be held on August 23

Mr. Chamara Koswatte, chief ministerial candidate of the JVP for the SPC, made the allegation stating that the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) in fear of its defeat in the election has been engaged in threatening opposition party workers conducting electioneering.

Meanwhile, UNP general secretary Tissa Attanayake said at a press briefing held in Colombo Thursday that reports have been received that several police stations in the two provinces are being used by the ruling party political as their election offices to carry out illegal activities such as collecting undelivered polling cards and violating election laws, sources said.
