Family man shot dead, youth injured in Vadamaraadchi

Unidentified armed men on motor cycle arriving at the house of a family man in Valveddiththu’rai Maavadi area in Vadmaraadchi, shot and killed him Wednesday around 1:30 p.m. Point Pedro Additional magistrate Allex Rajah visited the site and held the inquest into the death. Meanwhile, Wednesday morning, a youth with gunshot wounds had left the hospital in Thunnaalai, Vadamaraadchi immediately after having his wounds dressed saying he feared for his life, hospital sources said.
The family man shot and killed was identified as Kudiyan Sivapatham, 48, toddy taper by profession. Valveddiththu’rai police, directed by the magistrate, handed the body Wednesday around 5:30 p.m. to Valveddiththu’rai Base Hospital mortuary for post mortem examination to be held. Meanwhile, a family man said to be the relative of the injured youth who had left the hospital in Thunnaalai after treatment Wednesday morning, sought refuge with Human Rights Commission (HRC) in Jaffna, due to death threats to his life. The family man who sought protection is 56-year-old and a resident of Allaiyampalam in Thunnaalai, Vadamaraadchi. HRC officials made arrangements to have the man placed in the protective custody of Jaffna Prison.
