A paramilitary unit operated by Iniyaparathy, a close associate of Karuna, shot and killed a 60-year-old relative of an LTTE commander Saturday night around 7:45, at Eruvil in Ka'luvaagnchikkudi, located between Batticaloa and Ampaa'rai, residents said.
The victim, a father of five, was identified by the medical sources at Ka'luvaagnchikkudi hospital as Samithamby Kanthappoadi. The paramlitary operative Iniyaparathy, who operates from Ampaa'rai, has recently threatened civilians that his group would take revenge for attacks on paramilitary, by killing relatives of LTTE members. Last Wednesday, a 60-year-old mother, Thevarajah Varathaluxmy, a mother of an LTTE commander from Ampaa'rai, was shot and killed allegedly by the same group, a day after a key campaigner of the paramilitary group was slain at Thirukkoayil.
