Youth shot dead in Uyilangku’lam, Mannaar

Unidentified armed men shot and killed a 19-year-old youth Monday in Uyilangku’lam in Mannaar district, media reports quoted police spokesman Ranjit Gunasekara in Colombo. The victim is claimed to be a resident of Uyilangku’lam.

Meanwhile, Mannaar police recovered Sunday morning a hand grenade tied to a bicycle parked in Mannaar town and the bomb squad which rushed to the site neutralized it, the sources added.

Mannaar police have organized special road patrol units to detect bomb-tied bicycles in several places in Mannaar police division on receiving reports that such cycles are left at strategic points.

All bicycles now plying via Bazaar Street, Muslim Road, Main Street, Hospital Road, Uppuku’lam, and Chinnakkadai in Mannaar town are checked by the police at various checkpoints.
