A body of youth identified as Ekambaram Anantharajah, 17, was found shot twice through the head at the Saththurukkondaan cemetery, four kilometers north of Batticaloa last evening said Sri Lankan Police sources.
The body was brought to Batticaloa this morning. Ananatharajah had left his home in Mayilambaveli, seven kilometers north of Batticaloa, around 4.30 p.m. in the afternoon yesterday to visit an aunt in the same village. Later in the evening around 6 p.m. neighbours informed his family that his body was lying by the Saththurukkondaan cemetery. Anantharajah was engaged in collecting firewood for sale from areas controlled by the Liberation Tigers. Police sources said that a Tamil para-military group operating with the SLA could have been involved in the killing. They could have suspected Anantharajah of having links with the Liberation Tigers as he travelled to areas under their control daily to ply his trade.
