3rd beheaded male corpse recovered in Kappoothu, Vadamaraadchi

[TamilNet, Friday, 12 September 2008, 19:08 GMT]
Nelliyadi police in Vadamaraadchi recovered a male corpse with its head severed and signs of severe torture Friday, near a bridge 400m from Kappothu Sri Lanka Army (SLA) main camp along Kuyilangka’ndi Veethi in Kappoothu, a place located between Thenmaraadchi and Vadamaraadchi, sources in Point Pedro said. Meanwhile, a beheaded corpse of a male in woman’s clothing from Thenmaraadchi was recovered recently from this area and the body of a youth from Rajkiraamam in Karaveddi in Vadamaraadchi with its head severed was found dumped in the same area following it.

Though persons traveling along the said road in Kappoothu area had noticed the beheaded corpse Thursday, Nelliyadi police had been informed of it only Friday.

Point Pedro acting magistrate Mr. Allex Rajah, who inspected the site where the corpse was found, directed the police to hand it over to Manthikai government hospital and to take steps to have it identified.

The corpse, clad in green and white shirt, with knife wounds all over, appears to be that of a male aged between 30 to 40 years, was found with its hands and legs bound.

The victim may have been abducted Wednesday night, tortured and killed elsewhere before being brought and dumped in Kappoothu area, the police said.

Meanwhile, Gilbert Anthony Rajah, 39, a family man from Koayil Chanththai, Karaveddi in Vadamaraadchi had gone missing after leaving home on 8 September around 10:30 a.m, according to complaint lodged by his wife with Human Rights Commission (HRC) Jaffna office Friday.

Gibert Anthony Rajah is not a native of Vadmaraadchi but had come from some other place.

Though suspicions are raised by Vadamaradchi residents that the corpse recovered Friday is that of Gilbert Anthony Rajah who had gone missing 8 September, the police said that the corpse remains unidentifed.
