Heavy fighting, which erupted in the southwest frontiers of Ki'linochchi district on Sunday continued amid heavy artillery fire throughout the day. Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) bombers were observed over Vanneari area three times and at least two airstrikes were witnessed by the residents of the district. Meanwhile, two artillery shells exploded near A9 highway around 1:00 p.m.
Although normalcy has been distrubed in Ki'linochhi in recent days, after foreign aid workers were instructed to leave Vanni by Colombo, the town was relatively calm on Sunday as fighting was going on in the interiror jungle.SLAF Helicopter gunships were seen engaged in firing along the new forward defence localities in Vanneari.
The traffic resumed on A9. However, there was no sign of humanitarian supplies reaching Ki'linochi on Sunday, officials attached to the District Secretariat complained.
