Eleven members and sympathisers of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) were injured when a large group of PA supporters and thugs attacked the party's meeting this afternoon at Pannala, about sixty five kilometers northwest of Colombo. The wounded have been admitted to the Kurunagala hospital.
A JVP spokesman said this evening that about hundred PA persons came to the venue of the meeting and began throwing crackers at the people who were gathered there, hooting and manhandling some onlookers. Later some of them had got on to the stage and had attacked the speakers. They had also smashed up the stage said the JVP spokesman. The few Policemen who were at the scene looked on helplessly at the carnage as they were completely outnumbered he said.
