3 civilians killed in Sri Lankan air-strike, IDP teacher, daughter among victims

Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) bombers Friday morning attacked three localities in Paranthan, 6 km north of Ki'linochhci town. Three civilians, a 46-year-old teacher, her 11-year-old daughter and a 33-year-old mother of two were killed. Six civilians including a 14-year-old son if the teacher and another boy at the same age, were wounded at Kumarapuram. The wounded were rushed to Ki'linochchi hospital, still functioning at Ki'linochhci town. 12 houses were destroyed in the attack at Kumarapuram. A Saiva temple, Kumarapuram Murukan koayil, and a shop were also damaged in the air-strike.

Usha Manokaran, 33, succumbed to her injuries at 1:00 p.m. at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Ki'linochchi hospital. The teacher killed in the attack was identified as Arumainathan Chandrathevi, 46. She was a teacher at Pazhai Central College. After displacement, she was teaching at Hindu Maha Viththiyaalayam. Her 11-year-old daughter, Achchika, succumbed to her wounds at Ki'linochchi hospital. Achchika's father, 52-year-old Thamotharampillai Arumainathan and a 14-year-old brother, A. Ajithan, sustained injuries. Mr. Armumainathan was rushed to Ki'inochchi hospital with serious injuries. Their house was fully destroyed. The other wounded included Thuvarakan Sreekanthan, 14, student of Paarathi Hindu Maha Viththiyaalaym and T. Sivananthan, 39, an IDP from Pazhai, who was running a small shop at Kumarapuram. His shop was also destroyed in the attack. Three air-attacks were reported in Paranthan area between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. Casualty details from the other two SLAF attacks were not available at the moment. 6 livestock were killed at Kumarapuram.
