Saiva priest, student reported missing in Valikaamam

Family members of the priest of a Saiva temple in Alaveddi in Valikaamam in Jaffna peninsula lodged a complaint with Human Rights Commission (HRC) Jaffna that the said priest had gone missing since October 20 after leaving home to attend to his daily duties in the temple. Meanwhile, the family members registered a complaint with Jaffna HRC that their son, as student at the Jaffna Technical College, has gone missing.
The Jaffna Technical College student reported missing is Sriskantharajah Puvaneswarn alias Kethees. Kethes was abducted from his adoptive father's house in Alaveddi who is a leading lawyer in Jaffna peninsula. His adoptive father Mr. Thambimuthu was assaulted when he tried to stop the abduction of his adoptive son. The Saiva priest reported missing is Aiyathurai Shanmugivel, 40, a resident of Alaveddi in Valikaamam. Last year, a Saiva priest from Kaithadi in Thenmaraadchi reported missing was later recovered dead from a shallow grave. Following the attack on SLA soldiers stationed in Maadiyappiddi many Saiva priests of various temples in Jaffna peninsula were taken into custody by the SLA.
