Two foxes from the jungles have been preying on people living in the coastal villages of Alampil and Semmalai in Mullaithivu since last Saturday according to reports from the area.

Twenty villagers have been bitten by these foxes until now.

The people of Alampil and Semmalai say that the foxes are afflicted with some kind of noxious rabies.

One fox has been tracked down in the nearby jungles and shot dead by the villagers. The other is still at large.

Reports say that many people in Alampil and Semmalai are scared to venture out too far from their homesteads after dusk for fear of the rabid fox.
