70 of 1,000 IDP families of Kaddaipa'richchaan relocated to their native division

[TamilNet, Friday, 07 November 2008, 13:58 GMT]
240 members of 70 displaced Tamil families from Kaddaipa'richchaan North GS area in Moothoor division in Trincomalee district were brought to their native division, 20 moths after they were forced to flee their villages, on Friday. Despite their return, they continue to be IDPs as they are yet to be resettled in their lands, which have not been cleared and their houses are in a dilapidated state, according to civil sources.

The IDPs were brought in 6 Sri Lankan government buses Friday morning from Vaakarai to Cheanaiyoor Central college for temporary accommodation.

The IDPs were earlier accommodated in welfare cenres located Manmunai North and Ea'raavoor in Batticaloa district till they were moved to Moothoor.

The entire population of Kaddaipa'richchaan North GS area was about one thousand families. All of them fled from their houses leaving their properties and belongings behind and sought refuge in Batticaloa district following military offensive launched by the Sri Lankan forces in April, 2006.

Divisional Secretary A.Selvanayakam and his staff located in Ki'liveddi transit welfare centre received them and made arrangements for them to stay with immediate relief. Later they were taken to Chennaiyoor Central College for temporary accommodation.

Abandoned dwellings and wells are to be cleared first before the IDPs could move into their lands which are now seen with overgrown bushes. There is no roof or doors to their houses and they had lost all their properties after the SLA entered their villages.

Another group of Kaddaipa'richchaan North refuges are to be brought down to Moothoor from Batticaloa on November 11.
