42 families consisting of 132 persons who had fled to Jaffna peninsula from the ongoing war in Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) held territories and placed in Kurunakar Refugee Camp were transferred to Koappaay Government Teachers Training College premises. These families were moved from Kurunakar as their camp on the coastal area faced the risk of flooding according to warnings issued, Jaffna Secretariat sources said.
The refugee families were taken to Koappaay Saturday in UNHCR vehicles where they have been placed in one of the hostels of the training college. Jaffna Government Agent (GA) who relocated the refugees has directed the Village Officer (grama sevaka) of the area in Koappaay to supply cooked food to them and provide other basic amenities. The 'Rehabilitation Centre' in Kurunakar had been set up in the old Jaffna Judicial building complex.
