SLA cordon, search Thunnaalai in Vadamaraadchi

Following the killing of two youths by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) Wednesday morning during a sudden cordon and search conducted in Thunnaalai in Vadamaraadchi, SLA launched yet another intensive cordon and search Thursday early morning in the same area deploying more than a thousand troops, sources in Vadamaraadchi said. Young men and women were brought out to the temple courtyard and subjected to rigorous interrogation which went on until evening. Meanwhile, no information is available on the elderly mother of one of the two youths. The two bodies lie unclaimed in Manthikai government hospital in Vadamaraadchi, hospital sources said.
All residents in Thunnaalai were confined to their houses except government servants and examination candidates who were permitted to leave the area Thursday morning. All young men and women in the houses were brought out and made to assemble in the courtyard of the Saiva temple in the area. SLA soldiers continued to grill them, and continued their search until evening, the sources said. The mother of Sinnathurai Suthakaran, one of the youths killed and the owner of the house searched, who had been in the house when the killings took place, have not come forward to claim her son’s body in Manthikai hospital along with other youth’s body which remains unidentified. SLA soldiers shot and killed two youths Wednesday in a sudden cordon and search launched around 5:00 a.m of a house in Koayitkadavai, Thunnaalai in Vadamaraadchi.
