Trincomalee IDPs in shelters suffer due to rain
[TamilNet, Thursday, 18 December 2008, 16:55 GMT]
Hundreds of internally displaced Tamil families now being sheltered in several welfare centres in Paddiththidal and Ki'liveddi in Moothoor division of Trincomalee district, have been suffering due to leaking roof and flood water entering their huts following heavy rain with gale since Tuesday.
The IDPs fled their villages in Moothoor division to Batticaloa due to
military offensive launched by the Sri Lanka Army in April 2006 and
were brought down for resettlement recently. But they are being kept again in temporary shelters as resettlement process is delayed, civil sources said. Most of the roads leading to villages in Moothoor division and other
areas in the Trincomalee district have become impassable in several
places due to flood caused by incessant rains now being experienced in
the district.
