Special Task Force (STF) commandos and police jointly conducted a cordon and search Sunday from 6:00 a.m to 7:00 p.m arresting 12 youths, including 7 Tamils and 5 Muslims, in Kalmunai Police division in Ampaa’rai district. The youths were taken into custody as they failed to establish their identity and they will be produced in the court, Kalmunai police said.

The joint search was conducted in Natpiddi, Thu’raineelaava’nai, Periya Neelaava’nai and Kalmunai.

Persons going to other villages from their village on personal errands happen to be arrested in cordon and search operations conducted by STF commandos and the police. This causes great inconvenience to them besides upsetting their normal life, the villagers said.

Meanwhile, STF and police conducted a joint cordon and search in Aarayampathi Chelvaanakar in Batticaloa district Sunday morning carrying out house to house search besides subjecting the inmates to rigorous interrogation.

A similar search was again conducted in Aarayampathi area Sunday evening.
