In a fax message sent to the media in Jaffna peninsula Friday night, an organization calling itself Ellaa’lan Force, requested the residents of Jaffna peninsula to shun 'carnival' type events organized in Jaffna by the Government of Sri Lanka. "These events, organized to reinforce a preception of prevailing normality, are mainly used as a cover to avoid international spotlight on the killing of Tamils," the message said, according to sources in Jaffna.
Ellaa'lan Force's message is issued as the government organized Industrial Exhibition is to be ceremoniously opened Saturday in Vembadi Girls’ High School in Jaffna. Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in Jaffna has strengthened security measures in Jaffna town while blocking the road in front of the venue to all vehicular traffic. People are only permitted to go on foot along this road. "While the International Community is becoming aware of the continuing killings of Tamils by the Sri Lanka military, the Government of Mahinda Rajapakse is trying to create a false impression of peace and normalcy in Jaffna peninsula," the message said. A few Tamils are helping the Mahinda Government in this matter by actively participating in the carnival events, and these acts are very much regretted by majority of Tamils, the message further said. The Industrial Exhibition which begins Saturday will continue until Monday, according to exhibition organizers.
