Sri Lankan Air Force (SLAF) sources in Colombo said today said that Kfir jets launched an attack on an LTTE arms dump in South - western Mullativu destroying it completely. The arms dump was located in the Mulliyawalai area, the sources said.
The Airforce sources also said that several small LTTE camps caught fire in the attack. Meanwhile Government sources said that 41 families, consisting of 73 people, have gone from Vavuniya to the LTTE controlled areas of the Vanni to rejoin their families. The 41 families were part of a group of 237 families, consisting of 718 people, who were caught in a Sri Lankan Army (SLA) offensive on Oddusuddan. Over 15,000 people were displaced from Oddusuddan when the army moved into the town late last year. The 718 who remained were taken by the SLA to a transit camp at the Goodshed road in Vavuniya. Of the group, 41 families have now been cleared by the SLA to return to their relatives who moved into the LTTE controlled areas during the offensive, the government sources said. Most of the Oddusuddan families who were taken to LA controlled areas of the Vanni wish to return to their relatives in the 'uncleared' areas and have sought permission from the SLA, the government sources added. Officials said that this is the second batch of such people who were allowed to proceed to the LTTE territory. On January 21, fourteen families consisting 28 members were allowed to return to their relatives. The families were transported by the security forces up to the last SLA forward defence line near Madhu Road junction.
