Muslim businessman shot dead in Ea’raavoor

Unidentified gunmen lying in ambush near the house of a Muslim businessman at 3rd Cross A. K. Street, Ea’raavoor in Batticaloa district, shot and killed him as he was returning home in a three-wheeler, Ea’raavoor police said. The victim is a director of a telecommunication centre in Ea’raavoor as well as an agent involved in sending persons abroad for employment, sources Ea’raavoor said.

The victim was identified as Mohamed Lebbai Safi Hasan alias Muasamil, 33, a father of two children.

Hasan had been to Colombo and on his return to Ea’raavoor had hired the three-wheeler on Main Street in which he went to his house.

He was involved in a fight with an armed gang a few days ago and this killing is related to his business affairs, according to initial police investigations.

Ea’raavoor is located 16 km from Batticaloa town.
