Poster warns officialsA group calling itself the 'Thamilar Padai' (The army of the Tamils) put up hand bills in several parts of the Vadamaradchi division of Jaffna today addressed to members of local government bodies (Pradheshiya Sabhas -PS) in the peninsula . The hand bill states that members of the PS should all resign immediately and warns that action will be taken against those who remain in their positions.
Army arrests council employeeSri Lankan Army (SLA) personnel stationed at the Pt.Pedro jetty arrested S.Sreelokananthan, 42, an employee of the Pt.Pedro Urban Council on January 28, 1999. His relatives said that he is yet to be released. Sreelokananthan is from Katkovalam near Pt.Pedro. Police sources said that the army may have detained him on suspicion that he has links with the Liberation Tigers. Meanwhile, Christie Johnson Basilraj, 24, of Mount Carmel Street in Gurunnagar, a coastal suburb of Jaffna town has been reported missing since January 28. His family said that he had gone to Jaffna town on the 28 and has been missing ever since.
