Ka’luvaangchchikkudi Base hospital Medical Officer said Wednesday that it was Viveakaananthapuram Women’s Deveolpment Society treasurer who was found killed with her neck wrung and dumped in a well Monday night in Vellaave’li police division in Batticaloa district and not the mother of the raped 14-year-old girl, Y. Punithavathy, as Ka’luvaangnchchikudi hospital sources had earlier reported. The mother of Punithavathy is alive and being treated now in Batticaloa Teaching Hospital, said the MO Dr. P. Vaseekaran.
TamilNet Tuesday reported the story according to the above sources that Special Task Force (STF) commandos who had sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl Sunday in Vellave’li police division had killed her mother and dumped her body in the well of her house. The woman killed by unidentified armed men Monday night at Viveakaananthapuram in Vellave’li police division was identified as Sivakumar Mahathevi, 32, the treasurer of Viveakaananthapuram Women’s Development Society. The killers who had severely assaulted Mahathevi’s husband and held him bound made away with the cash and jewelry in the house after killing Mahathevi. Mahathevi’s body was found dumped in their well. Ka’luvaangchchikkudi hospital MO performed the post mortem examination on Mahathevi’s body in the presence of Batticaloa Magistrate, P. Ramakalan. The medical officer said that Mahathevi’s neck had been wrung with a cloth and that knife wounds were found on the back of her neck. The magistrate directed the police to produce the killers and the evidence at the court. The body was handed to her relatives Tuesday around 6:30 p.m after the inquest into her death.
