Missing old woman recovered dead in Jaffna

Jaffna police recovered Tuesday the body of a woman aged eighty-five, reported missing two and a half months ago from her home in Jaffna town to Human Rights (HRC) Jaffna office, strangled to death and buried in her compound, sources in Jaffna. The police, on being informed by public, conducted the search Tuesday in her house accompanied by Jaffna Magistrate K. Vasanthasenan.

The victim was identified as Vetharajah Diliranee, 85, a resident of Martin Road in Jaffna town.

The police searched the compound of her house and found her body buried.

Investigation revealed that she had been strangled to death and buried.

The body was handed over to Jaffna Teaching hospital mortuary for post mortem examination to be held.
