PLOTE - TELO clashes continue

[TamilNet, Thursday, 25 February 1999, 17:05 GMT]
The paramilitary groups Tamil Eelam Liberation Organisation (TELO) and People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) clashed again yesterday evening at Cheddikulam resulting in the wounding of a TELO member, said sources.

According to TELO sources in Vavuniya, three members had gone to Cheddikulam town from their camp nearby, when PLOTE members who had waited in ambush opened fire wounding one TELO member.

The other two TELO members returned to their camp while the PLOTE members took the injured man back to their camp.

The incident was then brought to the notice of the Sri Lankan Army in the area who surrounded the PLOTE camp and rescued the injured TELO member.

TELO sources said that the injured member had been assaulted by the PLOTE. After being rescued by the SLA he was taken to the hospital and he is now at the TELO camp in Cheddikulam.

A TELO spokesman said that the SLA had promised to take appropriate action against PLOTE's unruly behaviour.
