Southern PC to be dissolved August first week

[TamilNet, Saturday, 25 July 2009, 13:05 GMT]
The Southern Provincial Council is to be dissolved during the first week of August and elections held in September. This would be followed by holding elections to the remaining local bodies in the Jaffna district, a government spokesman said Saturday.

The government has now completed elections to six provincial councils.

Eastern Provincial Council election was held May last year followed by elections to the Sabaragamuwa and North Central Provincial Councils in August in the same year.

Elections to Central, Wyamba and Western Provincial Councils were held this year.

Political sources said that once the Southern Provincial Council election was held the government would lay the ground work for the presidential election which is expected to be held early next year 2010.
