JTC students to launch boycott against principal

Jaffna Technical College (JTC) students Friday announced that they are to boycott classes protesting against JTC principal alleging him of misappropriation of college funds and using JTC as the office of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), a constituent in the ruling United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) government, sources in Jaffna said. JTC students had met Minister Douglas Devananda with their demands and the minister has promised to look into their demands, a press release by the media coordinator of Social Services Ministry informed.
JTC Principal, N. Yogarajan, is alleged of having misappropriated large sums of money collected from the students, by JTC students. The students further alleged that during the recent JMC election Principal Yogarajan had used JTC as the office of the SLFP candidate and that they were forced to paste wall posters in support of the said candidate. The students of JTC met Minister Douglas Devananda and complained that they are being forced to engage in political activities which does not concern their college activities, according to the press release of the Social Ministry. The students had also requested Minister Douglas Devananda to save JTC from malpractices and ensure a good future of its students, the press release said.
