Batticaloa Police Wednesday morning unearthed human remains of male person with bullet in its head from a pit which is located in a land that belongs to the National Water Supply and Drainage Board at Kalladi in Batticaloa in the presence of Batticaloa Magistrate Mr. V. Ramakamalan Wednesday morning. Judicial Medical Officer of Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital Dr. Ajit Jayasinghe was present at the site when the exhumation took place.
The Magistrate last week ordered to dig the pit on receipt of
information from a group of boys who suspected human remains buried in it when they were playing in the land on Friday. About twenty five women were present at the site to identify the human remains as of their children or husbands. Amirthalingm Pratheeba, a young woman identified it as of her husband Periyathamby Amirthalingm who was reported missing since 17.11.2004 on his way home in Kalladi from his shop at Thaa’ndavanveli in his motorbike. His motorbike was found abandoned in Batticaloa town two days after his disappearance. She identified the remains as of her husband from a bunch of keys and dress found with the remains, legal sources said. The Magistrate thereafter instructed the police to obtain some
photographs of her husband and to hand over them to the Judicial Medical Officer and to submit a report to court later.
